One of the biggest wins for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks during the early signing period was getting a commitment from 5-star cornerback Na’eem Offord, who flipped to the Ducks from the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Offord is one of the gems of the 2025 class, ranked as the No. 2 cornerback in the nation, and the No. 12 overall player, according to 247Sports. Standing at 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, the blue-chip athlete has the desired size to stand up in the secondary and be physical with opposing receivers, which we’ve seen as an issue for Oregon cornerbacks in the past.
After his signing, though, and more notably after his performance in the Under Armour All-American Game, Offord could see his position change.
According to Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman, Offord is now considered an ATH rather than just a cornerback, possibly moving to the nickel or back to safety.
“Offord might grow out of playing strictly cornerback and could be a nickel,” Spiegelman wrote. “Or maybe he moves to safety and similar to DJ Pickett and others, he’s a good-enough athlete to even move to offense and possibly play some receiver.”
Offord’s versatility should greatly benefit Oregon, as Tosh Lupoi and Chris Hampton can move him throughout the secondary and find the best home for him. The Ducks also brought in 5-star cornerback Dorian Brew, 5-star cornerback Brandon Finney, and 5-star safety Trey McNutt in the 2025 recruiting class, so a lack of talent won’t be an issue for Oregon’s defensive backfield in the future.
