Jan. 22—Josh Yoder has been waiting for the right opportunity to become the head coach of a football program.
He believes he has found that in the Lebanon Tigers. Yoder was approved as the head coach of the Lebanon football program on Tuesday night at the school board meeting.
He replaces Jeff Smock, who resigned earlier in the month.
“This is something I have been working towards for 21 years of coaching,” Yoder said on Tuesday. “The way it all came together — Jeff is a heck of a guy and what he is doing is so important. Giving me the opportunity to step in here, it’s been unbelievable. I didn’t necessarily see it going this way, but I am sure glad to be in this spot.”
Yoder was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator last year, and also worked in the school as weight room and engineering teacher at LHS.
He previously was part of the staffs of Bluffton, Muncie Southside, Evansville Reitz and Brownsburg.
“In addition to his football expertise, Coach Yoder is dedicated to the development of our student-athletes both on and off the field,” Lebanon Athletic Director Phil Levine said in a press release. His leadership and coaching contributions have helped his teams achieve incredible success. We are confident that Coach Yoder will bring energy, passion, and a strong work ethic to our football program, and we are excited for the future under his leadership.”
Yoder has been running off-season workouts for the Tigers for the past several weeks.
He said he will officially meet with them this week. He said with him already being on staff and in the building, it should be a good transition.
“What’s been really good about this is I’m already in the weight room as part of my day, so once this transition period hit, we just kept doing what we have been doing,” Yoder said. “We have had great attendance in weights and our off-season…
