The majority of Florida football’s incoming freshman class will get a chance to show its potential this spring.
In all, 19 of the 25 freshmen that signed with the Florida Gators during the early period in December have enrolled this semester. They will be eligible to take part in spring drills in March and take part in UF’s spring game, scheduled for April 12 at The Swamp at 1 p.m.
Per 247 Sports, UF’s incoming class is ranked 10th nationally and sixth in the SEC.
Last season, Florida freshman early enrollee Jadan Baugh starred in UF’s spring game, rushing for 77 yards. It was a sign of things to come as Baugh rushed for a team-high 673 yards and seven TDs on the season to earn freshman All-SEC honors.
Freshman quarterback DJ Lagway also shined as an early enrollee in last year’s spring game, passing for 173 yards and two TDs.
Which freshmen could emerge for UF this spring? Here are five incoming freshman early enrollees to watch:
Dallas Wilson
Position: Wide receiver
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 205
School/Hometown: Tampa Bay Tech HS/Tampa
Rating: Five-star, per 247Sports
National Ranking: 26, per 247Sports
The Skinny: Wilson had 128 catches for 2,417 yards and 28 TDs in three seasons at Tampa Bay Tech. Andrew Ivins of 247Sports said Wilson has the “size, hands and speed to emerge as a true impact player for a College Football Playoff contender.” With the loss of Florida receivers Chimere Dike and Elijhah Badger, Wilson will get a chance to complete for a starting job at wide receiver as a true freshman.
Vernell Brown III
Position: Wide receiver
Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 170
School/Hometown: Jones HS/Orlando
Rating: Four-star, per 247Sports
National Ranking: 39, per 247Sports
