The Texas Tech football program took a dip in high-school recruiting this cycle, at least on paper.
After signing top-30 classes in back-to-back years, the current crop isn’t viewed as favorably by recruiting services. The class of high-school signees Tech landed in December shows up on the 247Sports composite index at No. 43 in the nation and No. 6 in the Big 12. TCU, Kansas State, Baylor, Utah and Colorado are ranked ahead of Tech in the conference.
On3 has the Red Raiders’ class No. 40 in the country and No. 5 in the Big 12. It ranks the classes assembled by TCU, Colorado, Baylor and Kansas State ahead of Tech’s.
Two years ago, the same services had Tech’s signing class at No. 28 overall and No. 4 in the Big 12. Last year, with Texas and Oklahoma both departed for the Southeastern Conference, both had Tech with the No. 1 class in the Big 12 and at No. 25 and No. 23 in the nation.

Not that the Red Raiders see themselves as lacking in talent acquisition. Coming off an 8-5 season and with The Matador Club collective making a massive commitment in the NCAA transfer portal, the Red Raiders recently added 17 players. On3 ranks Tech’s portal class No. 1 in the country and the 247Sports composite has it No. 3 behind the hauls of LSU and Ole Miss.

When is the traditional national signing day?
High-school players who didn’t make up their minds by December can sign from Feb. 5 through April 1.
