Jax State running back Tre Stewart to participate in East-West Shrine Bowl

Jacksonville State running back Tre Stewart has accepted an invitation to participate in the 100th East-West Shrine Bowl.

The game will be played on Jan. 30, in Arlington, Texas, and will air on NFL Network at 7 p.m.

Stewart will be the third Jax State player to participate in the Shrine Bowl, joining defensive linemen Jesse Baker in 1979 and Mark Word in 1999.

Stewart, who was named a first-team All-Conference USA selection, led the league in rushing in his lone season with the Gamecocks. He finished the year with 1,638 rushing yards and a league-high 25 touchdowns. He had seven games with 100 or more rushing yards and three 200-yard games.

The East-West Shrine Bowl is the longest-running college all-star football game in the nation and gives top college players a chance to showcase their talents to NFL scouts and a national television audience, according to a Jax State release.

The list of Shrine Bowl alumni includes Tom Brady, Walter Payton, John Elway and Brock Purdy.
