Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian often says he doesn’t want his program to “make a living” by acquiring players from the transfer portal.
So far this offseason, Sarkisian and the Longhorns have remained true to that philosophy. Texas’ four transfer commits as of Friday afternoon tied the Longhorns with Tennessee for the fewest in the SEC.
Operating that way requires Texas to develop players effectively, and the offseason is where the bulk of that development takes place.

QB Arch Manning
Let’s get the obvious out of the way first. Quinn Ewers is off to the NFL, and that makes the Longhorns Arch Manning’s team for the first time since he arrived on campus.
During his three-game cameo filling in for an injured Ewers early in the season, Manning showed off just about every physical trait you could ask for in an elite college quarterback. This offseason, though, will be about the other aspects associated with playing the position well.
How effectively will he communicate with his teammates? How well will he command the huddle? Can he progress his understanding of Sarkisian’s offense? Can he use the reps he put on tape to hone the finer aspects of his game?
All of these questions will shape his success or failure as the Longhorns’ signal caller in 2025.
