After a standout career as a player at Douglas Byrd under the legendary Bob Paroli and as a defensive lineman at ECU, Brown brings in over 16 years of experience in the coaching field around the Fayetteville area at Terry Sanford, E.E. Smith, Gray’s Creek and various programs across the state like Smithfield-Selma and most recently as defensive coordinator at Garner High.
“I am honored to return home to the Douglas Byrd family and lead the football program,” Brown said in the release. “My focus will be on reestablishing our winning tradition while instilling core values like academic excellence, sportsmanship, accountability, and perseverance in our student-athletes.”
During his time at Douglas Byrd from 1998-2002, Brown collected 175 tackles, five sacks, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries that helped the Eagles secure a state championship appearance and a 54-8 record across his four-year starting role. As a Pirate, Brown picked up 44 total tackles and achieved the Most Improved Defensive Player Award in 2005.
“Coach Brown embodies the qualities we look for in a leader. His vision for the program aligns with our goals of athletic and academic excellence,” Principal Kenneth Williams said about the new hire.
