Year 2 of Texas A&M football, under head coach Mike Elko, is off and running with spring football less than a month away.
Elko’s first run started off promising for the Aggies, beginning the 2024 season 7-1. However, the finish was familiar, as the Aggies dropped four of their last five games and finished 8-5, capped by a loss to the USC Trojans in the Las Vegas Bowl.
With holes on offense becoming evident as the season went on, Elko and his staff addressed that side of the ball through the transfer portal. After beginning 2024 with Conner Weigman as the starter, A&M is now quarterback Marcel Reed’s team.
What will the offense look like in 2025? Where will the team’s new additions slot?
Here are five key questions for the Aggies:
How does Marcel Reed develop as QB1?
For the first time in his collegiate career, Reed is entering an offseason as the guy. With Weigman at Houston after entering the transfer portal, this is Reed’s team going forward. A&M hopes Reed can hit the ground running, as the rising junior will be looked upon as A&M hopes Reed can improve on a 2024 offense that ranked 13th in the SEC and 87th in the country.
Reed finished 2024 with 1,864 passing yards, 15 touchdown passes and a QBR of 75.4, good for 22nd in the country. He also added 547 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while appearing in 11 games, starting eight of them.

The Aggies’ offense suffered from injuries and talent deficiencies that hindered them in SEC play. With a more concerted effort to build around Reed, A&M’s most important factor will be how the young quarterback responds to the challenge.
