With the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft this April, the Giants — who finished the season 3-14 and have needs all over their roster — are doing their due diligence on the crop of young talent ready to embark on their careers in the NFL.
The latest player GM Joe Schoen and his contingent met with was Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders whom they spoke to at Tuesday’s practice for the East-West Shrine Bowl.
In search of a new franchise quarterback following the release of Daniel Jones, Schoen spoke highly of the highly-touted prospect.
“He’s a great kid. He’s a great kid. Really good personality,” Schoen said. “Football smart. Dad’s a football coach. It’s a little bit cliche, but he checks all the boxes of a dad that’s a football coach and the passion that he approaches the game with. It was good getting the meeting. He’s had a really good career in Colorado, and obviously, look forward to getting to know all those guys the rest of the process.”
Sanders, son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, spent the last two seasons with the Buffaloes after transferring from Jackson State where he played for two years — all of which were with his father as the head coach.
Last season, the senior led the FBS by completing 74 percent of his passes, had 4,134 passing yards, threw 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and led Colorado to a 9-3 record, the Buffaloes’ first winning season since the shortened 2020-21 season (4-2). He finished in eighth place in Heisman voting.
Overall, the 22-year-old had 134 passing touchdowns and just 27 interceptions across 50 games in his college career.
The East-West Shrine Bowl will be played on Thursday, Jan. 30, however Sanders will not play as the QB opted to sit out.
