Illinois football continues in-state push, lands commitment from three-star edge rusher

The Illinois football program received another in-state commitment for the Class of 2026.

Defensive end Jacob Alexander of state power Frankfort Lincoln-Way East committed to coach Bret Bielema and the Illini on Monday, according to a post from his high school’s X.com account.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound edge rusher chose Illinois over more than a half-dozen other Big Ten Conference offers, including Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

“Just a great atmosphere and the people here,” Alexander told Illini Inquirer on Sunday. “That’s what’s important: the people here in the building. I know I can be great here.”

Alexander is the sixth high school prospect to commit to the Illini’s Class of 2026 and the second from the state, joining receiver Davon Grant of DeKalb. The Illini continue their push for the state’s top talent and are in the mix for about 10 three- and four-star recruits in Illinois, according to Illini Inquirer.

The Illini also have received commitments from offensive lineman Landen Van Seggern of Nebraska, and three Florida players in quarterback Michael Clayton and receiver Kenyon Alston of Orlando and linebacker Kingston Shaw of Apopka.
