For a significant portion of its history, the Atlantic Coast Conference has notoriously been a two-team race between Duke and North Carolina in men’s college basketball.
That doesn’t appear to be the case in the 2024-25 season — at least at this point of the season, where the calendar flips to February and multiple teams have reached the halfway point of the regular season.

No. 2 Duke remains in the driver’s seat in the conference after Cooper Flagg helped the Blue Devils push past Wake Forest on Saturday with 15-second half points. At 9-0 in ACC play, the Blue Devils are out to their best start in conference play since winning their first 10 games of the 2007-08 season.
In its lone game of the week, Louisville picked up a 98-73 win on the road at SMU behind a 30-piecer from senior guard Reyne Smith. It is the fourth time this season that Smith has finished with at least 20 points in a game, and the ninth straight win for Pat Kelsey’s squad.
Elsewhere, Clemson moved within half a game of Duke in the ACC standings with two convincing wins over Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
With their wins last week, the Cardinals and Tigers not only moved into the top 25 of the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, but also will likely see both of their NCAA Tournament seeding projections rise. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Louisville as a 6 seed and Clemson as a 7 seed in his most recent bracket projection, which was released ahead of Friday’s slate of games.
