College football coaches are again lining up for Newbury Park quarterback Brady Smigiel

Newbury Park High superstar quarterback Brady Smigiel announced Sunday that he has decommitted from Florida State.

Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State have won the last three College Football Playoff national championships.

Within days of their crowning victories to end each of the past three seasons, the offensive coordinators of those three teams — Todd Monken, Kirk Campbell and Chip Kelly, respectively — were in Newbury Park to meet with the Panthers’ five-star quarterback.

And now one of the most sought-after football recruits in the country is back on the market.

Smigiel informed Florida State University over the weekend that he was decommitting from the Seminoles and reopening his recruitment.

“I was just trying to hold on because I really like it over there,” Smigiel said. “I held on for as long as I could. … I had to make the best decision for me and my family.”

Smigiel’s decision comes seven weeks after Florida State head coach Mike Norvell shook up his coaching staff following a 2-10 season, which included the hire of former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn as offensive coordinator.

“Things have changed since I committed,” Smigiel said. “Now I don’t think it’s the best opportunity for me to be successful at the next level.”

Norvell and Malzahn visited the Smigiel family earlier this month in an effort to sell Smigiel on the changes. Smigiel informed Florida State of his decision on Sunday.
