Let the accolades continue for Tuscaloosa Academy’s Preston Lancaster.
For the second-straight year, Lancaster was named the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 2A Back of the Year award on Tuesday at the 2024 Mr. Football & Players of the Year Banquet in Montgomery.
“It means a lot,” Lancaster said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. My receivers and my offensive line, they really helped out a lot. Coaches, they’ve helped me a lot. I’m just honored to receive the award.”
It comes after Lancaster led Tuscaloosa Academy to the Class 2A state championship game in 2024, finishing as runner-up to Reeltown. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound signal caller threw for 4,293 yards and 47 touchdowns, setting the AHSAA single-season passing record. Lancaster finishes his high school football career with 11,393 passing yards, making him the Alabama high school football all-time passing leader.
Tuscaloosa Academy head coach Josh Wright was in attendance to watch Lancaster win the award on Tuesday along with parents Paige and Mark, brother Philip and coach Ethan Haines.
Tuscaloosa Academy’s Preston Lancaster was named the ASWA Class 2A Back of the Year for the second-straight year on Tuesday.
“Number one, it’s just great experience to be nominated, but to win it two years in a row just says a lot about him,” Wright said. “He had a better year this year than he did last year. His teammates are a vital part of that, just like he’d say. It was definitely awesome.”
Lancaster has yet to commit but holds offers Tarleton State, Murray State, Millsaps College and East Mississippi College. He is expected to make his decision by National Signing Day on Feb. 5.
