The New York Jets will have an upper hand at assessing former Louisville wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks prior to the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jets wide receivers coach Junior Taylor is on the coaching staff and Brooks is playing for the East team during the East-West Shrine Bowl, which is set to kick off at 8 p.m. today at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Brooks and former U of L cornerback Corey Thornton will be East teammates at the Shrine Bowl.
Brooks ended his one-year stint as a Cardinal with 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns on 61 catches, becoming the eighth different Louisville player to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season. The Floridian, who came to Louisville from Alabama, has impressed throughout Shrine Bowl practices. He is projected to be the only Cardinal selected in the NFL draft as a seventh-round pick, per Pro Football Focus.
Thornton reportedly met with the Green Bay Packers on Jan. 26. Former Louisville cornerback Quincy Riley is scheduled to play in the Senior Bowl on Saturday in Mobile, Alabama. Thornton and Riley combined for 20 pass breakups and four interceptions. Of the two, Thornton gave up the fewest yards per reception (8.9), and Riley gave up the fewest touchdowns (3). The latter generated some buzz while going against receivers Xavier Restrepo (Miami) and Jayden Higgins (Iowa State) during Senior Bowl practices.
The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
