The UConn football program announced a total of 18 transfer portal signees who will join the Huskies for the spring semester, including eight who signed on after the program’s Dec. 28 Fenway Bowl victory over North Carolina.
An offensive lineman who played for Notre Dame in the national championship, a tight end from NC State and a defensive back from Penn State headline the group of recent signees as the program looks to build on its successful 2024 campaign. The Fenway Bowl victory capped off the program’s best season in over a decade as it finished with a 9-4 record, unbeaten against fellow Group of Five opponents.
UConn also announced eight incoming freshmen who will join the program for the spring semester in defensive back Axavier Bridges Brooks (Upper Marlboro, MD), defensive end Nykobi Brown (Valdosta, GA), quarterback K’saan Farrar (Virginia Beach, VA), cornerback Osiris Gilbert (Duluth, GA), offensive lineman Hill Greenlee (Dallas, TX), offensive linemen Joe McGann (Lagrangeville, NY), cornerback Saxton Suchanic (York, PA), and tight end Xavier Watson (Waverly, NY).

Javonte Vereen, TE, NC State
Vereen joins the Huskies with three years of eligibility remaining after spending his first two collegiate seasons at NC State, where he appeared in three games last season. A former four-star prospect, Vereen had four catches for 65 yards against Notre Dame in 2023.
Ben Smiley, DE, Virginia
Smiley has one year of eligibility remaining after appearing in 40 games over six seasons at Virginia, where he started 12 and accumulated 50 total tackles, 6.5 for a loss, and 3.5 sacks. Smiley played 11 games in 2024, making 12 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss.
