Michigan football shocked the college football world in November when it did the unthinkable — managing to wrest No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood away from LSU.
Underwood had been pledged to the SEC powerhouse since January 2024, and had appeared solid in his commitment to the Tigers. However, behind the scenes, the maize and blue worked diligently on all fronts. Name, image, and likeness pitches, secret visits, and more managed to get Underwood to stay home in the state of Michigan, securing the quarterback of the future.
While Underwood is not the consensus No. 1 overall recruit (only Rivals doesn’t have him at the top, while 247Sports, On3, and ESPN all have him as the top prospect in 2025), one recruiting service sees him as the best-ever in terms of high school prospects. On3 revealed its final 2025 rankings and Underwood came in as the rankings site’s first-ever perfect, 100-score recruit.
With Underwood in the fold — and he is signed and with the team already — the Wolverines will be able to push the pass game to another level. Though the maize and blue also brought in transfer Mikey Keene, formerly of Fresno State, much improvement is needed, as Michigan had the No. 131 (out of 134 teams) passing offense in 2024. Regardless of that, the Wolverines managed to go 8-5 in 2024 and beat both Ohio State and Alabama, despite the anemic aerial attack.
