Former Notre Dame safety gets coaching job promotion with Big Ten program

It is always great to see former Notre Dame football players succeeding after they leave the program, regardless of if it continues on-the-field or off of it.

For former Irish safety Houston Griffith, he went straight into coaching following his playing career, and it very much looks like he made the right choice. Immediately hired by his father’s Howard’s alma mater, Illinois, after he hung up the cleats after graduating in 2022.

In 2023, Griffith was a recruiting assistant for the Fighting Illini, as his role kept changing every year. The next season, he was elevated to assistant wide receivers coach, but on Friday the biggest news of his coaching career was announced.

Griffin will now be the assistant defensive backs coach for Illinois, going back to his roots inside the secondary. His rise in the coaching ranks needs to be on Notre Dame’s radar, as he knows the program well and could eventually be an option for the Irish at a later date.

Regardless of what happens in the future, it is great to see Griffith succeeding in his coaching career.
