Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Smael Mondon has been named as a Senior Bowl standout according to NFL draft expert Daniel Jeremiah. Mondon is one of five Georgia Bulldogs participating in the Senior Bowl.
The former Georgia linebacker has excellent speed and is coming off a very productive college career at UGA. However, injuries hampered Mondon at times in college. Now, he looks fully healthy to the delight of NFL draft scouts.
“He (Smael Mondon) flashed acceleration and sideline-to-sideline range during the scrimmage portion of the day,” said Jeremiah. “He also shined in some of his one-on-one coverage reps that tend to heavily favor the offensive player. In pass-rush drills, Mondon was able to overwhelm running backs who tried to slow him.”
Mondon is a versatile defender. He recorded at least 55 tackles and three sacks in his final two years at Georgia. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker also posted five career pass deflections and one career interception. NFL teams will value Mondon’s ability in coverage and to rush the passer. That ability will keep Mondon on the field for crucial third down plays.
Jeremiah thinks that Mondon has raised his NFL draft stock at the Senior Bowl. Jeremiah highlights Mondon as one of his Day 2 standouts.
The 2025 Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NFL Network. Georgia fans can watch Mondon along with running back Trevor Etienne, defensive lineman Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, safety Dan Jackson and wide receiver Arian Smith.
