NORMAN — Wes Goodwin might not be OU’s defensive coordinator, but the former Clemson defensive coordinator and linebackers coach is still joining Brent Venables’ staff.
Goodwin will serve as a defensive analyst for the Sooners, the Tulsa World first reported Friday.
Goodwin worked with Venables during two separate stints at Clemson.
From 2012-14, Goodwin served as a defensive analyst for the Tigers while Venables was the defensive coordinator. From 2018-21, Goodwin was a senior defensive assistant under Venables.

When Venables left to take over as OU’s head coach, Goodwin was elevated to defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Goodwin was let go after the Tigers were eliminated in the College Football Playoff last season. Goodwin was frequently mentioned as a defensive coordinator candidate after Zac Alley left for West Virginia, though Nate Dreiling has reportedly been hired to at least coach inside linebackers.
