No. 1 player in 2026 class puts Oregon Ducks among top schools

Recruiting is a 365-day, 24-hour-a-day thing now and Dan Lanning is hot on the trail for the next big Oregon Duck recruit.

And the term “big” may be an understatement.

According to On3, the top recruit in the Class of 2026, offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell has Oregon as one of six schools he is considering to play his college ball. Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 315 pounds, Cantwell is from Mixa, Missouri. The Ducks are in the running along with Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Miami, and the in-state Missouri Tigers.

Cantwell holds a score of 98.80 in On3’s scoring system and according to their scouts, Cantwell is also a track and field athlete, which could be an advantage for Oregon. While it is still relatively early in Cantwell’s recruitment, the Ducks are thought to be in a great position to land him, since he plans to do both football and track and the college level, and Oregon excels in both things.

“Big-framed offensive tackle with eye-popping athleticism and functional strength as a high school underclassman,” On3’s Charles Power wrote of Cantwell. “Measured at over 6-foot-7, 205 pounds prior to his sophomore season. Has solid length with 33.5-inch arms and big hands. Owns a phenomenal athletic profile as one of the top shot put throwers in the country for his age group. Posted a personal best throw of over 64 feet as a freshman. Has deep athletic bloodlines with both parents being Olympic track and field athletes as throwers.”

Offensive linemen have been a focus for Lanning where the Class of ’26 is concerned. Oregon has already garnered a verbal commitment from Kodi Greene out of Mater Dei High School in Southern California and is currently recruiting Baltimore (Md.) Georgetown Preparatory offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe, Fruitland (ID)…
