The Oregon Ducks had one of their best seasons in program history a year ago. They were ranked the No. 1 team in the nation for almost half of the 2024 season and went on to earn the No. 1 seed in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff. In their first year as members of the Big Ten Conference, Dan Lanning and Co. won the conference championship, and they sent another quarterback to New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
While the final game of the year may not have gone as Oregon fans had hoped, it was unequivocally a massively successful season that will act as a launching pad for the Ducks’ program going forward.
So can they do it again in 2025?
That’s one of the biggest questions of the offseason in Eugene. The Ducks are seeing many highly talented individuals leave for the NFL this spring, and they need to replace guys like quarterback Dillon Gabriel, running back Jordan James, wide receiver Tez Johnson, tight end Terrance Ferguson, linebacker Josh Conerly, defensive end Jordan Burch, linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, and cornerback Jabbar Muhammad, among many, many others.
Fortunately, Lanning and Chief of Staff Marshal Malchow have done an incredible job of building depth on the team via recruiting and the transfer portal over the last three years, so Oregon should be in a position to succeed once again next season.
While we head into the slow months of the year, there are still many things to talk about despite no football played. This year more than ever, it seems that the Ducks’ offseason will be littered with unending storylines to pay attention to, whether it’s the new QB leading the team, elite freshmen coming to Eugene, or the bounce-back that this program needs after a tough loss in the Rose Bowl a month ago.
Here’s a look at our most important, and most intriguing storylines to follow this…
