The five transfers that hurt LSU football the most in 2025 transfer portal

College football’s transfer portal season is over — for now.

After weeks of movement, the action has died down. Players on playoff teams have been given the chance to explore their options, putting the cap on the winter transfer period. There will be some more movement in the spring, but it won’t match the chaos of the last two months.

LSU football signed one of the best portal classes in the country. According to 247Sports, the Tigers’ transfer portal class ranks No. 1 in college football.

But the Tigers lost players, too. LSU had 19 players hit the transfer portal. Most of that group was not going to make an impact in 2025, but that doesn’t mean LSU was happy to see them all go.

Talent is talent and a few of those 19 names had breakout potential or provided valuable depth. Today, we’ll look at the five transfers LSU will miss the most this season.

5. Safety Jordan Allen

Allen signed with LSU in 2022. He was the No. 506 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings. He didn’t see the field often his first two years in Baton Rouge but earned a starting job to start the season in 2024.

Allen got the nod in weeks one and two, but his playing time began to fade and he dealt with injuries the rest of the year. He finished the 2024 campaign with 111 snaps, making nine tackles and breaking up a pass.

LSU lost a handful of safeties to the portal, hurting depth at the position. Allen wasn’t going to start in 2025, but he’s a veteran who could have provided depth.

4. Safety Sage Ryan

We’ll stick with another safety here. Ryan was one of the most experienced players on LSU’s roster. He flirted with the transfer portal in 2023 but elected to return for the 2024 season. He entered the transfer portal for real in 2024 and landed at Ole Miss.
