Andy Staples sees more College Football Playoff heartbreak for Notre Dame in 2025

The 2024-25 college football season is still fresh for many Notre Dame football fans, as they saw their team finish just one win from being called National Champions.

The Irish return the majority of their stars from last year’s team, and should again be a favorite to make the College Football Playoff again and have similar success to the first year of the 12-team expansion’s field.

On3’s Andy Staples agrees that Notre Dame should be one of the best teams in country in the fall, and has them making the CFP in his way-too-early projection of what the field will look like. Many of the same faces we saw last year making the field, with the Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Oregon, Texas and Clemson.

Staples also had a few new participants like Illinois, BYU, Tulane, South Carolina and Florida, and had three of this past year’s final four making it again. In a rematch of the semifinals, he has the Longhorns exacting revenge on the Buckeyes, and with the Irish taking out the Ducks on the other side.

Unfortunately, Staples has Notre Dame being dealt the same fate, losing once again in the Championship game, but this time to Texas.

Do you agree with how Staples has the CFP playing out? Or is it a bit too early to make a projection like this? I personally think it’s an early, as there will surely be some more player movement following the spring transfer window that could shape how this coming season will play out.
