The Georgia Bulldogs are going to have a new look team in 2025. Former Georgia starting quarterback Carson Beck transferred to Miami and the Dawgs lost over a dozen players to the 2025 NFL draft.
ESPN predicts that Georgia’s 2025 season will fare just fine. Bill Connelly predicts (subscription required) that Georgia will make the College Football Playoff for a second straight season this fall. Connelly has Georgia winning the SEC championship for a second consecutive time as well.
“The Dawgs will have a new starting quarterback in 2025, but on average the quarterback position seems to mean a bit less when Georgia is involved,” said Connelly. “The Dawgs threw for only 136 yards in the 2024 SEC championship game, after all, and still won. So Georgia grinds out Smart’s fourth SEC title.”
Of course, quarterback Gunner Stockton is expected to be Georgia’s starting quarterback. Stockton played in the second half of UGA’s 2024 SEC championship win over Texas and made his first career start in Georgia’s Sugar Bowl loss to Notre Dame. Stockton will face competition this spring. Freshman Ryan Puglisi is expected to be Stockton’s top competition. Stockton will be part of a revamped Georgia offense that lost four of five offensive line starters, several key contributors at receiver and top running back Trevor Etienne.
As a result of winning the SEC championship, Connelly has Georgia as the No. 1 seed in the playoff. The Bulldogs are projected to have a bye before playing the winner of No. 9 Ohio State versus No. 8 Michigan. Connelly has Georgia beating Michigan in the playoff quarterfinals and then predicts that UGA beats No. 5 Alabama in the semifinals.
