BATON ROUGE – In a released statement, former LSU football wide receiver Kyren Lacy’s defense attorney has said that his client “did not cause or contribute” to a fatal car accident that happened back in December.
Louisiana State Police, after opening up an investigation into a head-on collision on Louisiana Highway 20 on Dec. 17 that claimed the life of former Marine Herman Hall, 78, issued a warrant for Lacy’s arrest on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle charges on Jan. 10.
Lacy, 24, turned himself into authorities Jan. 12 and was subsequently released the same day on $151,000 bond.
Matthew Ory, a Thibodaux-based attorney representing Lacy in the case, put out a statement Sunday on the investigation into the crash and his client’s involvement in the tragic incident.

“The collision that resulted in the death of Mr. Herman was not caused by Mr. Lacy’s actions. The accident occurred directly in front of him when a second vehicle in the oncoming lane crossed the centerline and collided with Mr. Herman’s vehicle, in which he was a passenger,” Ory’s statement said. “We are of information and belief that the vehicle that collided with Mr. Herman’s vehicle was issued a citation. At no time did Mr. Lacy’s vehicle strike the rear of Mr. Herman’s vehicle, nor did any of the vehicles Mr. Lacy passed collide with his. After the collision occurred in front of Mr. Lacy, he cautiously went around the vehicles after passage was safe.
