Michigan football makes top group for No. 1 overall 2026 recruit Jackson Cantwell

Michigan football already got the No. 1 player in the country, regardless of position, in the 2025 recruiting cycle with five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood making the late flip from LSU to the Wolverines in Nov. 2024. Could the maize and blue land the No. 1 player again in 2026, making it two years in a row?

The Wolverines are putting on a full-court press for the 2026 No. 1 player in the country in Nixa (Mo.) five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell. Cantwell has recently visited Ann Arbor and the Michigan coaching staff also dropped in to see him in person before the recruiting dead period started on Monday.

On Sunday, Cantwell revealed his final list of six suitors and Michigan football made the cut. But it will have hefty competition with Georgia, Ohio State, in-state Missouri, Miami, and Oregon rounding out his top six.

Cantwell’s timeline for a decision as to choosing his school of choice remains unclear. And, regardless, there’s a long way until the early signing period in December. (Remember: Bryce Underwood committed to LSU in Jan. 2024 before flipping to Michigan in November).

Still, the fact that the Wolverines are in the running for the nation’s top-rated prospect bodes well in terms of overall recruiting.

Or, as some might say, ‘So, you’re saying there’s a chance.’
