Michigan State football seemingly landed a home run hire when they poached Jonathan Smith from Oregon State a year ago. Smith, at his alma mater, had the Beavers as a top 25 program in America under his tutelage.
During his time in Corvallis, especially in recent years, there is no doubt that he would have been considered a top-25 coach in America. Now, after one year in East Lansing, there are some doubting that notion.
In a latest ranking from On3’s Ari Wasserman Smith is not featured in the top 25 of the nation’s best coaches. Seven other Big Ten coaches are featured on the rankings, though.
One injury filled 5-7 year was all it took for Smith to get taken out of the spotlight, which surely will put a chip on his shoulder, just the way Spartan nation loves to see it.
