On Monday, Notre Dame football made an offer to an 2028 Illinois defensive tackle, and aside from the early offer, it may not have made many waves.
What was different for Caleb Tucker, the 6-foot, 5-inch and 355-pounder, is his nickname, which just so happens to be “Bonecrusher.” I actually got a chance to see him play this fall, when his Mount Carmel team battled Loyola, in one of the most anticipated games in Illinois.
Tucker isn’t just a big body, he’s a force that got plenty of playing time for a state championship team. Plenty of other schools have noticed as well, with offers already from schools like Oregon, USC, Michigan, Auburn and others.
While it’s not uncommon for freshman to hold offers anymore, you don’t often see them so big and nimble. We will be watching to see how interested “Bonecusher” is with the Notre Dame program.
