Texas A&M linebacker Tristan Jernigan is entering his second season with the program and will likely see the field at a higher rate in 2025. As a late addition to the 2024 recruiting class, coach Mike Elko, just a month on the job, kept Jernigan’s commitment as the Tupelo (MS) native signed with the Aggies over Alabama in the final moments of his recruiting journey.
While Jernigan is firmly committed to developing and seeing the field next season, one of his former Tupelo HS teammates, 2026 four-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy, is back on the market after decommitting from LSU on Monday afternoon, as the 6-6, 245 pounds man-mover will be heavily pursued this spring and possibly this summer.
The connection is obvious, but after offering McCoy late last summer, he has yet to take an official visit, but that could change in the coming months. I expect LSU to continue pursuing, but Alabama and Ole Miss are other programs to watch. Knowing Elko and his talented defensive staff’s success in landing elite defensive line prospects, the Aggies should be a player in McCoy’s recruitment going forward.
After recording 11 sacks and 23 tackles for loss during his 2023 sophomore season, McCoy finished with 7.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2024.
According to 247Sports Composite, JaReylan McCoy is currently positioned as the 79th-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 6th-ranked defensive lineman, and the 5th-ranked prospect in Mississippi.
