Tuscaloosa Academy’s Preston Lancaster has found his future home.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound quarterback announced his commitment to Tarleton State on Saturday. Lancaster will sign with the Texans on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
“They have a really cool campus and great coaches,” Lancaster told The Tuscaloosa News. “They have a good agricultural program which I will want to do. Great town and great people over there.”
Lancaster finished his four-year career at Tuscaloosa Academy throwing for 11,393 yards and 124 touchdowns, making him the Alabama high school football all-time passing leader. He threw for 4,293 yards and 47 touchdowns in 2024, setting the AHSAA single-season passing record while leading the Knights to the Class 2A state championship game.
Lancaster was named the ASWA Class 2A Back of the Year at last week’s ASWA Mr. Football & Players of the Year Banquet in Montgomery. It marks the second straight year Lancaster earned the award.
“Just proud of him,” Tuscaloosa Academy head coach Josh Wright said. “Tarleton State is a great program.”
Lancaster chose Tarleton State over other offers from Murray State, East Mississippi Community College and Millsaps College. The Texans compete in the United Athletic Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision.
