When Josh Henson left USC football for Purdue following the 2024 season, head coach Lincoln Riley had to fill his roles on the staff. In addition to serving as the Trojans’ offensive line coach, Henson was also USC’s offensive coordinator—a mostly ceremonial title, given that Riley himself calls the offensive plays. The Trojans filled the first of those roles when they shifted tight end coach Zach Hanson over to the the offensive line. This week, the Trojans filled out their staff moves for 2025 by announcing that quarterbacks coach Luke Huard will also serve as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Huard initially came to USC in February 2022 as an offensive analyst. After the late Dave Nichol stepped away from his role as inside wide receivers coach due to health issues, Huard took over the position. He moved from working with inside receivers to quarterbacks prior to the start of the 2024 season.
Huard comes from a family full of quarterbacks. He briefly played at North Carolina before a shoulder injury derailed his career. His brothers, Damon and Brock, however, both starred at Washington during the 1990s.
Huard’s nephew, Sam, transferred to USC this offseason. He will compete for the starting QB job with Jayden Maiava and Husan Longstreet.
