With family, teammates, coaches and friends looking on, Gahanna Lincoln senior Taizaun Burns officially locked in the next step in his football career, signing Wednesday with the University of Cincinnati.
Burns played several positions in his lone season with the Lions, just as he had done at East before transferring to Gahanna. He said the move from the Division IV Tigers to the Division I Lions proved to be the best decision for his development.
“No regrets,” Burns said. “I came here and it was a short amount of time, but the short amount of time was worth it. I was challenged every day. I accepted every challenge. They pushed me to be a better version of myself. I thank my coaches.”
He helped Gahanna go 9-3 and win the OCC-Ohio at 5-0.
Burns, who contributed at wide receiver, running back, strong safety and cornerback, was first-team all-league and honorable mention all-district. As a junior at East, he was second-team all-state and first-team all-district on offense.
“What’s special about today is my family and friends helping me get to this moment, all the hard work and dedication I’ve put in this,” Burns said. “All the time consumed with things they put into me to get to this moment – all the late nights, early mornings working – it’s all paying off right now.”

Burns credits Gahanna coaches
Burns thanked the Gahanna coaching staff, especially head coach Bruce Ward, for helping him achieve his dream.
“Coach Ward is the man,” Burns said. “He made this possible today. Without him, I don’t know where I’d be. … He’s going to push you to be the best person that you could be. There’s no limit with coach Ward.”
