Chad Bowden Discusses decision to leave Notre Dame for USC

Last month, Lincoln Riley and the USC football program made headlines when they announced the hiring of Chad Bowden as their new general manager. Previously the general manager at Notre Dame, the Trojans were able to steal Bowden away from their longtime archrival.

At USC’s national signing day press conference on Wednesday, Bowden met with the media for the first time as a Trojan. During his interview, he shared some insight on why he decided to leave Notre Dame in order to be a part of Riley’s staff at USC.

“Notre Dame did everything they could to keep me there,” Bowden said. “USC for me, it meant more to me. When I was a kid, I watched Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, all those guys.”

For USC fans, this is certainly an amazing thing to hear. Bowden had a very good situation at Notre Dame—he was in charge of player personnel for a team that made it all the way to the national championship game. The fact that he chose to leave South Bend and join the Trojans certainly speaks to both his respect for the school as well as his confidence in Lincoln Riley and the program that USC is building in Los Angeles.

Bowden has said all of the right things thus far. Now, he needs to hit the recruiting trail hard and back up what he has said with his actions.
