Day gets new contract and a raise

Feb. 6—COLUMBUS — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day will get a contract extension and a raise that increases his average annual compensation to $12.5 million.

Once it is approved by the Ohio State University Board of Trustees, Day’s contract will run through the 2031 football season.

Day has a 70-10 record after a 34-23 win over Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff national championship game on Jan. 20. He and Georgia’s Kirby Smart and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney are the only active major college football head coaches who have won a national championship.

“Ohio State football has long been defined by excellence and under Ryan Day’s leadership that tradition has not only continued but thrived,” OSU athletic director Ross Bjork said in a press release announcing the new contract.
