After a brief one-year stint with Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide, Colin Hitschler will have a new home with James Madison as their defensive coordinator for the 2025 season.
Hitschler served as the Crimson Tide’s co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach this past year before being fired after the bowl loss to Michigan. The Crimson Tide defense was pretty strong this past season, but the liabilities certainly stemmed from the defensive backs, so DeBoer decided to make a change. Maurice Linguist will take over both of Hitschler’s roles.
The Dukes just completed their first year in the FBS ranks, so it’s a pretty good landing spot. Hitschler also had previous stops at Cincinnati and Wisconsin, where he worked with James Madison head coach Bob Chesney.
