Sherrone Moore listed as a top 25 head coach in college football

Sherrone Moore is one year into his Michigan football head coaching tenure and 2024 was something of a mixed bag.

The Wolverines got blown out by Texas, lost games it probably shouldn’t have against Washington and Illinois, kept within striking distance against No. 1 Oregon, and did the same on the road against a ranked Indiana team. The maize and blue were 5-5 heading into the penultimate week of the regular season and finally blew out a team in a not-great Northwestern.

But then a funny thing happened (and Michigan fans do find it hilarious) — the Wolverines went into Columbus, where they were a three-score underdog and beat the eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. They followed that up by going into Tampa and upsetting an Alabama team in the ReliaQuest Bowl that was playing most of its starters against, essentially, the B-team for the maize and blue.

On3’s Ari Wasserman put together a list of the top 25 head coaches heading into the 2025 season and given Moore’s torrid finish in the 2024 season, he ended up making the cut at No. 19.

Moore has wins over No. 2 Ryan Day, No. 9 Kalen DeBoer, No. 15 James Franklin (as an acting head coach in 2023), and No. 22 Lincoln Riley.

Given the 2025 schedule, Moore won’t have a lot of opportunities to add to the list, given that only three teams who have coaches in the top 25 will be on the docket — Ohio State, USC, and Oklahoma.
