Pro Football Focus ranked Arizona State football running back Cam Skattebo fourth on their ‘top 101 players from the 2024 college football season’ ranking.
PFF could not get enough of his Peach Bowl performance against the Texas Longhorns, where the Sun Devil running back took home the Peach Bowl offensive MVP award.
“He will forever be remembered for his amazing three touchdown (one as a passer) performance against Texas in an instant classic playoff game where he left it all on the field,” the analytics outlet wrote.
The part where Skattebo is said to have left it all on the field may also have to do with the fact that he put forth that performance despite vomiting profusely on the sideline during the game. Skattebo puked-and-rallied his way to 143 rushing yards on 30 carries, 99 receiving yards on eight catches and 42 passing yards on his lone pass attempt that also went for a score.
Skattebo ran for 1,711 rushing yards on the season via a 5.8 yard per-carry average. Rushing for 21 touchdowns, he caught 45 passes for 605 yards with three receiving scores too.
Some ASU fans, however, may take issue with Skattebo’s ranking. Not necessarily due to Skattebo placing behind Miami quarterback Cam Ward (No. 3 on the list) and Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter (No. 1 on the list), but due to Skattebo placing as the second-best running back on the list. Skattebo said during the season that he was the best running back in the country.
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty ranked No. 2 overall on the list. PFF ranked Jeanty over Skattebo as he reset the all-time PFF rushing grade record with a 96.6 grade for the 2024 season. Jeanty also easily broke both the PFF record for yards after contact and missed tackles forced.
