Illinois football lands another 4-star recruit in Class of 2026, this one from Texas

Illinois football continued to add talent on Friday when it landed Class of 2026 safety Kaedyn Cobbs.

The four-star prospect from Denton Guyer (Texas) officially committed to Illinois. He had offers from Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Buffalo, SMU, Texas Tech, Baylor and several others, and recently hosted Illini coaches — including head coach Bret Bielema — at his school.

Cobbs created a 38-second video for social media thanking his family and coaches for his journey through football, and including clips of him playing at a JFL age.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder is the No. 34-ranked safety in the country for the class of 2026, according to On3 Industry. He is the ninth commit in the Class of 2026 and second four-star pickup the last few days, joining defensive back Victor Singleton from Toledo — the highest-ranked high school commit under Bielema.

Cobbs had 74 tackles in his junior prep season, with 11 tackles for loss, four sacks, five QB pressures and no touchdowns allowed. Cobbs also is a track athlete, and according to athletic.com has run the 100 in :11.09, the 200 in :22.66 and competed in multiple relay events.

Cobbs played safety in his junior high school season, but some prospect ratings services list the Dallas area player as a 3-star linebacker, and Illini linebackers coach Archie McDaniel led his recruitment.

“I play fast. I get on that ball fast and I hit ’em hard,” Cobbs told the Illini Inquirer during a visit to the Illini-Michigan game in October. “It’s hard to find a linebacker who is 200 who can move and can cover, run fast and change direction. I feel like that quickness and speed, I’m that perfect combination here.”

The Illini are coming off a 10-win season…
