Ohio State football wide receiver Jeremiah Smith had an incredible rookie season for the Buckeyes. He came in as a highly-touted prospect, having been ranked as the top player in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports.
Smith lived up to those lofty expectations, easily becoming the No. 1 matchup problem in the Ohio State offense, and his talent shined even brighter as the stage continued to grow for the Buckeyes. Smith ended the season with numerous Ohio State receiving records as a freshman and a conference-high 1,315 receiving yards. He also had a Big Ten-best 15 receiving touchdowns.
For his performances, Smith has been named the No. 8 college football player by Pro Football Focus, coming in with a final grade of 89.7.
While there were some rumors (mainly from wishful thinkers) about Smith transferring, it appears he will get ready this offseason to run it back with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He’ll have a chance at basically every receiving record for the university before he heads to the professional ranks.
Smith was relatively shut down in the national championship, totaling just 88 yards against Notre Dame. That’s because the Fighting Irish and Longhorns learned what Oregon didn’t, and that is to have a fighting chance you must take Smith out of the game.

The star freshman put 187 yards and 2 touchdowns on the Ducks, the top team in the country at the time. That said, he’s more than deserving of his top-10 ranking, and one could easily argue that he should’ve been higher.
There’s no doubt he’ll make that list again next season.
