Two months after a successful Early National Signing Day for the Oregon Ducks, Dan Lanning, and Co.’s focus has shifted to preparing the Ducks 2025 roster and bolstering Oregon’s 2026 recruiting class. The Ducks are off to a hot start in the 2026 recruiting cycle, currently holding the top spot in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. But according to a recent On3Sports report, one of the Ducks’ top commits is drawing interest from other programs.
On Friday, Steve Wiltfong, a top recruiting insider for On3Sports, reported that USC and LSU are pursuing 4-star Oregon quarterback commit Jonas Williams. Williams is 247Sports’ No. 13 ranked QB in the class of 2025, and the No. 189 overall player.
Williams has been locked into Oregon since early August 2024, committing a week after attending a Ducks mini-camp. Before committing to Oregon, Williams listed the Ducks, LSU, USC, and Ohio State as his top four schools and took an unofficial visit with the Tigers.
According to Wiltfong’s report, Williams took a visit with the Trojans over the weekend, and LSU is still high on the list as well, despite having an active verbal commitment to Oregon.
As a player, Williams is a true dual-threat QB with quick legs and accurate delivery. At 6 foot 1 inch, he is a bit undersized, but as we saw this year, Oregon can run a high-powered offense with a smaller quarterback.
From Williams’s perspective, one negative about Oregon could be the depth of talented QBs in the Ducks program. In 2026, Williams’s freshman year, it’s expected that Dante Moore will return as the starter after starting in 2025, and behind him will be Austin Novosad, Luke Moga, and Akili Smith Jr., assuming none of them transfer. That’s a competitive room, and not everyone will get to see the field.
