Dabo Swinney adds another massive veteran addition to Clemson’s staff

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program have once again proved that they are approaching the game in a completely different way heading into the 2025 season.

According to multiple reports, Swinney and the Tigers are adding former East Carolina head coach Mike Houston to the coaching staff. A veteran head coach is making his way to Clemson in a role expected to work with Clemson’s new defensive coordinator from Penn State, Tom Allen.

Houston was the East Carolina head coach for the past six seasons, holding an overall record of 106-62 as a head coach of four different programs. The Tigers’ desperately needed veteran coaching, and they just added another big name with Houston.

Houston served as the head coach at James Madison from 2016 to 2018, guiding the Dukes to the FCS playoffs in all three seasons. In his first year, he led the program to a national championship, securing a 28-13 victory over Youngstown State in the title game.

Swinney and the Tigers aren’t messing around.
