LSU raises $3.2 million for NIL collective behind Brian Kelly’s matching campaign

LSU football and Brian Kelly launched a massive NIL fundraising campaign late in 2024. Kelly announced he would match donations to Bayou Traditions — LSU’s NIL collective. Kelly’s matching donations would go to the Tiger Athletic Foundation’s AD excellence fund.

The results of the campaign are final, with LSU raising $3.2 million for its NIL collective.

LSU’s NIL has become more competitive over the last year. The university’s NIL operation is more aligned, and it has shown results, with LSU landing the top-ranked transfer portal class in the college football. LSU did that while maintaining its success recruiting at the high school level, signing a top 10 class that included three five-star recruits.

There are high expectations for LSU in 2025. The return of starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, paired with an influx of portal talent, has LSU eyeing the College Football Playoff.

LSU will open its 2025 schedule with what is likely to be a top 10 matchup at Clemson. The Tigers are looking to snap an opening game losing streak that dates back to 2020.

Brian Kelly’s take on the importance of NIL

Prior to launching the campaign, Brian Kelly was adamant about what LSU needed from its NIL operation.

“Recruiting is no longer just about recruiting. Its no longer just about relationships. You need a collective,” Kelly said.

“You need the NIL to supplement your recruiting efforts, and that’s just the reality of what we live in because you can’t close every one of these just because they’ve got great relationships and they want to go to LSU,” Kelly said.

“We clearly understand that at LSU, we have to be in the ballgame,” Kelly added.
