Nick Coleman and Greer Martini were defensive teammates on Notre Dame football teams from 2015-2017, and on Monday, it was announced that they will once again be on the same team according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Both of them went into coaching following their playing careers, and they will be reunited at Western Michigan. Martini, a former Irish captain, had been Charlotte’s linebackers coach for the last two years, will take over the same position for the Broncos.
As for Coleman, he was an analyst at LSU, and now will take a step up in the coaching ladder to become a position coach, as he will take over the cornerbacks as WMU. It’s pretty neat getting to see both of them having success as coaches, and on top of that they are taking over position that they are very familiar with.
With Notre Dame not playing Western Michigan anytime soon, we can root for both Coleman and Martini to be as successful as possible with a potential return to South Bend as a coach in the future.
Martini spent the last two years as Charlotte’s linebackers coach. Both he and Coleman played at Notre Dame. Payne comes from Vanderbilt, where he was the assistant defensive line coach and pass rush specialist. They are part of new DC Chris O’Leary’s staff at WMU.
