Way-too-early starting lineup projection for Colorado’s offense

The Colorado Buffaloes are going through another transition period. For the first time in the head coach Deion Sanders era, his son, Shedeur, is not entering spring football as the team’s top quarterback.

Shedeur Sanders rewrote the record book during his two years starting in Boulder. No. 2 threw for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns to only 13 interceptions on 71.8% passing while compiling a 13-11 record and leading the Buffs to a bowl game in 2024. CU will now turn the page on the Shedeur Sanders era with two intriguing options to replace him as the conductor of the Buffs’ offense: Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis. Whoever wins the job must show an ability to lead a new group because, if my projections are correct, the Buffs will only return three offensive starters next season.

Quarterback — Kaidon Salter

Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter runs the ball into the end zone for a touchdown at the Salute to Veterans & Armed Forces game at MTSU on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024.

The Liberty Flames have been consistently competitive since moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision level, largely due to great QB play from Salter and current Green Bay Packer Malik Willis. In 35 games with the Flames, Salter threw for 5,889 yards and 56 touchdowns while adding 2,006 rushing yards.

Running Back — Micah Welch

Micah Welch dealt with injuries during his freshman season, but when healthy, he provided a boost to a stagnant rushing…
