The Dallas Cowboys are set to raid UTEP’s coaching staff, as defensive coordinator JJ Clark will leave UTEP to join Brian Schottenheimer’s first staff with the Cowboys as an assistant linebackers coach, CBS Sports reported.
Clark was part of Scotty Walden’s first staff at UTEP after he followed Walden from Austin Peay. Clark coached linebackers and was the coordinator of the Miner defense. That defense struggled early last season but improved dramatically over the year.
After allowing 442 yards per game in the first six contests, UTEP allowed 363 yards per game in the final six.
The Miners will now enter 2025 with two new coordinators, as they hired Mark Cala from TCU earlier this offseason to be the offensive coordinator. He replaces Jake Brown, who resigned following the season.
Clark will join Schottenheimer, named Dallas head coach on Jan. 24.
