For the first time since dropping its first SEC game of the season on Saturday, the No. 2 Auburn Tigers return to the court Tuesday to face Vanderbilt at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Auburn defeated Richmond, 98-54, following its first loss of the season to Duke in December. Will the Tigers manage to bounce back the same way on Tuesday? ESPN thinks so.
According to ESPN’s matchup predictor, Auburn has an 82.9% chance to beat Vanderbilt on Tuesday to return to the win column and gain confidence ahead of its showdown with No. 1 Alabama on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa.
Offensive efficiency and turnovers will be key for Auburn in Tuesday’s game at Vanderbilt. The Tigers have the most efficient offense in the country according to KenPom data, and rank No. 3 in the SEC by scoring 85.0 points per contest. Vanderbilt allows its opponents to score 71.9 points per game, which ranks No. 13 in the SEC.
However, the Commodores hold the SEC’s second-best turnover margin by forcing 5.31 more turnovers than creating. Limiting turnovers was a major point in the Commodores’ wins over top-10 teams in Tennessee and Kentucky this season. Vanderbilt matched Tennessee’s turnover total (11), while committing just five turnovers in its win over the Wildcats, compared to Kentucky’s 17.
