Texas Sports Writers Class 2A all-state football team includes 15 from West Texas

There were seven West Texas schools and 15 local athletes named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A all-state team Monday.

Four were from Mason, three from Junction, two each from Miles, Goldthwaite and Ozona and one each from San Saba and Reagan County.

The three first-team selections were Miles wide receiver Cooper Ellison, Goldthwaite defensive back Luke Sanderson and Junction kicker Marcos Estrada.

Ellison was the most prolific pass-catcher in the Standard-Times coverage area this year hauling in 70 receptions for 1,369 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also earning Co-Offensive MVP honors in District 7-2A Division II.

Estrada went 72 for 80 on extra points and 8 for 10 on field goals with a long of 40 yards, while earning District 14-2A DII Special Teams Player of the Year.

Sanderson finished the season with 105 tackles, 14 tackles-for-a-loss, seven forced fumbles, four sacks, two pass breakups and a fumble recovery on the way to earning District 10-2A DII MVP.

Ellison and Estrada were first-team All-West Texas selections.

Running back Sutten Silerio and Rylan Todd were the only two second-team selections. Silerio was the All-West Texas Offensive Player of the Year and District 14-2A DI MVP after carrying the ball 171 times for 2,322 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also had 11 receptions for 189 yards and four touchdowns.

Todd was an All-West Texas first-team selection and was District 14-2A DI Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year after grading out at 88% with 41 pancakes and 27 cuts.

Mason also had a third-team selection linebacker Clancy Osbourn who was the District 14-2A DI Defensive MVP after finishing the season with 101 tackles, 16 tackles…
