Texas Sports Writers Class 3A all-state football team includes 15 from Wichita Falls area

There were 15 local athletes named to the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 3A all-state football team Tuesday.

Among them were five from Holliday, three each from Jacksboro, City View and Vernon and one from Iowa Park.

The lone first-team selection was Jacksboro senior Cannon Valenzuela who made the squad as a defensive back. Playing safety, Valenzuela notched 151 tackles, including 10 for loss, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups. The Colorado State signee also led the area in receiving with 88 catches for 1,437 yards and 22 TDs.

Holliday senior Steele Skinner was the lone second-team selection, earning the honor as a utility player. Skinner started games at running back, receiver and linebacker. He had 1,278 total yards and 15 TDs on offense with 102 tackles on defense.

Holliday also had two third-team selections, including senior quarterback Hunter Jones and senior linebacker Parker Jones, who were joined on the third-team by City View senior defensive back Tre Hansboro.

Hunter Jones tied a Wichita Falls area single-season record with 54 touchdown passes. He completed 225 of 352 passes for 3,938 yards and scored eight more TDs on the ground.

Parker Jones missed three games but was still among the area’s leaders with 128 tackles.

Hansboro notched 85 tackles, including seven for loss, with one interception, six pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and a defensive TD.

Ten local players received honorable mention, including Vernon junior guard Christian Gallegos, Iowa Park junior tackle Andrew McClain, Vernon junior center Keigan Ballard, Jacksboro senior center Wade Treadway, Holliday senior receiver Ashtyn Berry, City View senior receiver Desmond Whiteside, City View sophomore defensive lineman Jayden Bradford,…
