Wisconsin football has undoubtedly raised its recruiting profile since Luke Fickell took over as head coach in December 2022.
Fickell first delivered a terrific 2024 class, finishing in 247Sports’ top 25 nationally and with the program’s first-ever blue-chip radio of 50%. 2025 then became an impressive encore. Fickell again finished within 247Sports’ top 25, led by top signees four-star quarterback Carter Smith, linebacker Mason Posa, edge rusher Nicolas Clayton and interior offensive lineman Hardy Watts.
Wisconsin’s 30% blue-chip ratio in the class (seven four-stars of 23 total commitments) is a significant step back from its 50% clip in 2024, though it remains far ahead of the program’s typical ratio. That strong recruiting performance is among the primary reasons for optimism entering the 2025 season after the program went a combined 12-13 in Fickell’s first two years at the helm.
ESPN’s recruiting rankings for the class of 2025 paint a similar picture. It has the Badgers at No. 31 nationally, led by two players in the ESPN300 — QB Carter Smith (No. 155) and LB Mason Posa (No. 251). With those rankings now finalized, here is ESPN’s outlook on the Badgers’ class (subscription required):
Known for fielding big, powerful offensive lines, the Badgers keep one of the state’s top big men at home in Michael Roeske. He moves well with good strength and balance and has a big frame to develop into one of the Badgers’ next massive people movers. They pulled OT Logan Powell out of Arizona. He is a versatile lineman that has filled out his frame nicely throughout high school. He also moves well and can offer the unit position flexibility.
Former Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell returned to the area to land talented three-star corner Jai’mier Scott. He pairs good overall height and length with speed and closing ability….
