Former Ohio State football offensive lineman Ben Christman dies at age 21

Ben Christman, a UNLV offensive lineman who spent two seasons at Ohio State, has died. He was 21.

The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Christman died Tuesday. No cause of death was given.

UNLV announced Christman had been found dead at his off-campus apartment Tuesday morning.

In a statement released by the school, UNLV coach Dan Mullen said, “Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing. Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program.”

Ohio State coach Ryan Day told The Dispatch he was in “complete shock” following the news.

“I’m just crushed for his family,” Day added. “I know the guys who came in with him are crushed as well. He was a very good football player, but a better person. To see us lose such a good young man like that, it’s heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his close friends. I can’t imagine.”

After participating in spring practice with the Buckeyes in 2023, Christman transferred to Kentucky and left for UNLV earlier this winter for his remaining collegiate eligibility.

Christman was the top-ranked offensive lineman in Ohio when he signed with the Buckeyes as part of their 2021 recruiting class.
